I chose to read this book because it was authored by Josh Bernoff. I've previously enjoyed his insightful work in "Writing Without Bullshit." However, this book presented two main challenges for me. First, it discusses social media technologies that aren't the most current. This isn't the book's fault; the realm of social media evolves incredibly quickly. Second, I didn't have a need to build a community for my users, seek feature or bug requests from a community, or look for affiliate marketing, influencers, or blog reviews. In other words, because the content felt outdated and irrelevant to my needs, I did not benefit from this book.
I appreciated that the book included several case studies along with their pros and cons. It can often be challenging to separate the quality of decisions made for a market or social media campaign from the outcomes for a company. Even if your actions are well-planned, they might not always yield positive results.
