Book Review: 5/5 Impact On Me
I love this book. Sometimes, work stress makes it hard for me to get up in the morning, but this book offers a fresh approach to facing challenges. It encourages seeing challenges as chances for growth. I found it fascinating that anxiety and excitement feel the same in our bodies. This insight means I can shift my anxious thoughts into positive anticipation.
One example I enjoyed is the “worst-case bingo” exercise, where you consider the worst that someone might say to you. Like Atomic Habits, it suggests breaking tasks down into 30-second actions, making them easier to start.
However, I have mixed feelings about its suggestion to play video games for three minutes as a quick stress break. I know I can get addicted to games, so I must be cautious. On the other hand, I understand that gaming could help my son develop resilience and emotional strength. I can also teach him the “gameful” approach to tackling challenges.
I appreciate its long list of practical suggestions to try, one after another.
This book had a 5-out-of-5 impact on me. I can see myself using these methods in my ongoing journey of self-improvement. I’m excited to dive back into it. On my second read, I plan to explore their online resources and apply them to reduce anxiety and find more fulfillment in my work.
It also mentioned Self-Compassion book, Grit book, Growth mindset book, and dozens of rating scale/resources.
