The Diet Myth: The Real Science Behind What We Eat

Book Review: 2/5 Impact On Me (Book By Tim Spector)

This book shared insights about food, including benefits and side effects. I liked that it organized each food type as a chapter. It had chapters on meats, alcohol, caffeine, and cocoa.

Some advice echoed what I've read in other books, like "The Case Against Sugar" and "Ultra Processed People," about cutting down sugar and processed foods for a healthier microbiome. The emphasis on gut bacteria was similar to what I found in "The Gut" and "We Contain Multitudes." However, I got confused by the recommendations to consume moderate amounts of alcohol, caffeine, and chocolate. This was because my previous understanding from "Outlive" was to reduce eating those. I have zero alcohol and zero caffeine, and I don't like chocolates.

I noticed carotene pigmentation on my palms and feet. So, after reading this book, I stopped taking multivitamin tablets instead of reducing my vegetable intake. The book also discussed artificial sweeteners, which I often prefer over sugar. It mentioned potential negative effects on gut bacteria but couldn't give a clear impact due to limited research.

This book had a 2 out of 5 impact on me. While much of the information was familiar from other readings, the book organized it well. It also offered some new insights. It helped increase my motivation to eat clean, eat less processed foods, eat more fat over fast-digesting grains while maintaining calories, and so on.
